The Bachelor of Science in Applied Science degree program will prepare students for occupations that involve the application of science in society, rather than the practice of science and scientific research.
The goal is to provide an integrated understanding of how basic and applied science benefit and impact us, from the individual to the biosphere. The program is also available as as an online degree completion option.
To be admitted into the degree completion option students must have a minimum of 64 accepted UNL semester hours of college credit from an accredited 4-year or 2-year college, and a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale) and at least a C average in the last semester of college enrollment.

Specific to the BS in Applied Science, 51 credit hours in four concentration areas:

Minimum of 30 of the last 36 hours, after acceptance to the Applied Science degree option, must be completed with UNL courses (Policy pending)
Learning Objectives
Learn and use the facts and concepts of mathematics and statistics, life sciences, natural resources, physical sciences and social sciences to represent the dynamics of physical, biological and socioeconomic processes
Demonstrate an understanding of essential concepts, both technical and economic, in areas at the interface of science and society: food and energy systems, biosecurity, environmental sustainability and biotechnology
Explain how natural systems function using strategic thinking and analysis
Demonstrate an understanding of the extent to which humans impact the environment
Apply quantitative analytical skills to evaluate and process numerical data
Construct graphical and tabular summaries of quantitative data
Analyze and solve complex problems using critical and creative thinking and scientific reasoning
Acquire appropriate and reliable background information from the primary scientific literature
Write effectively to communicate scientific data and information to both technical and non-technical audiences as appropriate

Note: Using Blackboard with AOL:
While you can use AOL as your service provider, you cannot use the AOL Web browser to access Blackboard (My.UNL). If you try to use the AOL browser, you will find that it will automatically log you out every few minutes and you will experience problems with some of Blackboard’s services including assessments (tests and quizzes).
